The German word Treppenwitz is a translation of the French esprit d’escalier, or “staircase wit”. It’s when you don’t think of a witty comeback until it’s too late — you’ve already left the apartment and have just got to the bottom of the stairs. You know the feeling.

This happens to me quite frequently, and it’s just struck again. But let me begin at the beginning.

One blog I keep an eye on — and anyone who makes YouTube videos should do the same — is the YouTube Creator’s Corner Blog (which, incidentally, I have featured in). One of the things that blog is good for is calling on YouTubers to make and submit videos that could be spotlighted on the YouTube homepage.

About a week ago, they asked for parodies of Oscar nominees. With one week’s advance notice. So for the past seven days or so, I’ve been racking my brain, trying to think of something to do; all the more difficult because I haven’t seen any of those films.

And now — literally, just now, just before bedtime on Oscar Day itself — I have this blindingly brilliant idea.

You’ll have to take my word for it, because it’s something I could possibly still do, so I’m not about to reveal all. It’s just too late for this particular spotlight.
